2013....2014

Memories
Can you believe 2013 is almost at its end. This year has gone by so fast. It seems like just yesterday was January 1, 2013. So many things happened this year that nobody is going to forget. Try to keep as many memories as possible because they are something to look at in the future. Remember to keep the memories from 2013 in your back pocket and get your front pocket ready for 2014.

America
In the past years one can see how much America has grown as a country. We have done so many things in the past year that have finally led us to be the strong country we are now. From Martin Luther King, to Abraham Licoln. Everyone has put an effort into making us the united country we are now. We look past all the mistakes and look ahead to a bright future.

Events
Many events have occurred during 2013. One news event I know I will not going to forget is the terrible Boston bombing. On that day not many people were killed but many people were injured. That is something I think many people will remember. One pop cultural moment that was very memorable was Justin Timberlake’s big come back. In 2011 his band split up and Justin Timberlake stopped performing but made his big come back with the song Suite and Tie. It became a huge hit. Something I will remember in my life that happened this year is when I wrote a letter of hope to a child in need. I can picture the look on that child’s face when they read that letter. I have learned to help people who are in need because of that letter I wrote. Something I am looking forward to in 2014 is to have a fresh, new start. 2014 is great time to get those New Year resolutions accomplished.

Candy Canes!!!!!

Introduction

Did you ever eat one of those red and white canes that are sweet and taste like peppermint. I know I have. Those are called candy canes. Did you ever wonder why it is called a candy cane. Well it is called a candy cane based off its shape. But did you ever wonder why it is in the shape of a cane. Did you know candy canes were originated from white sugar sticks. These sticks were hand made. These sticks were made by a man from a church. He gave these out as gifts for the children. Then soon he decided to bend the top part of the stick. He got the idea from the shepherds in a nativity scene. These candy canes soon associated with Christmas. Many people began to hang them on their Christmas trees.

My Opinion

I like the candy canes with the red and white stripes. People started to make those after the canes associated with Christmas. People said that the red and white stripes came because some people added red rose sugar for more flavor and a better look. others say the red and white stripes represent Christs blood and purity. Either way I like the red and white candy canes. People are also making multi-colored candy canes with many different flavors. I like those too. I like the pink and blue cotton candy one. But I like the original red and white peppermint candy canes the most.

Which Animal Takes the Logest Nap?

Introduction

When fall comes to an end and the temerature drops, winter is here. Did you ever watch a movie or show of an animal who takes a long nap in the winter. Well thats called hibernation. Hibernation is not actually a long nap the animals are in some sort of coma. Some animals migrate but some stay. Before winter they eat as much food as possible. Then during winter they go somewhere warm and "sleep". Many different animals do this. Because of cartoon shows when people think of hibernating they think of bears only.

My Opinion

If I had the option to either migrate or hibernate I would hibernate. If I migrate I would have to move a lot. I like to stay in one place because then I have to get used to everything all over again. I could just relax during the winter. I also would beable to experience all the different seasons instead of just summer all the time. It could also be good to migrate because I would beable to experience different places, and cool new things.

Five True Hibernaters                     Five Light Sleepers

1. Bears                                             1. Skunks
2. Wood Chucks                               2. Racoons

4. Squirrels                                        4. Frogs
5. Snakes                                           5. Turtles

Question of The week

I hope after reading this you have learned a lot about hibertation. I have a question. What if you had the choice to either hibernate or migrate what would you do? I said I would hibernate but I also think that migrating would be okay. What would you choose? If you figure it out post it in the comments.
