2013....2014

Memories
Can you believe 2013 is almost at its end. This year has gone by so fast. It seems like just yesterday was January 1, 2013. So many things happened this year that nobody is going to forget. Try to keep as many memories as possible because they are something to look at in the future. Remember to keep the memories from 2013 in your back pocket and get your front pocket ready for 2014.

America
In the past years one can see how much America has grown as a country. We have done so many things in the past year that have finally led us to be the strong country we are now. From Martin Luther King, to Abraham Licoln. Everyone has put an effort into making us the united country we are now. We look past all the mistakes and look ahead to a bright future.

Events
Many events have occurred during 2013. One news event I know I will not going to forget is the terrible Boston bombing. On that day not many people were killed but many people were injured. That is something I think many people will remember. One pop cultural moment that was very memorable was Justin Timberlake’s big come back. In 2011 his band split up and Justin Timberlake stopped performing but made his big come back with the song Suite and Tie. It became a huge hit. Something I will remember in my life that happened this year is when I wrote a letter of hope to a child in need. I can picture the look on that child’s face when they read that letter. I have learned to help people who are in need because of that letter I wrote. Something I am looking forward to in 2014 is to have a fresh, new start. 2014 is great time to get those New Year resolutions accomplished.

Candy Canes!!!!!

Introduction

Did you ever eat one of those red and white canes that are sweet and taste like peppermint. I know I have. Those are called candy canes. Did you ever wonder why it is called a candy cane. Well it is called a candy cane based off its shape. But did you ever wonder why it is in the shape of a cane. Did you know candy canes were originated from white sugar sticks. These sticks were hand made. These sticks were made by a man from a church. He gave these out as gifts for the children. Then soon he decided to bend the top part of the stick. He got the idea from the shepherds in a nativity scene. These candy canes soon associated with Christmas. Many people began to hang them on their Christmas trees.

My Opinion

I like the candy canes with the red and white stripes. People started to make those after the canes associated with Christmas. People said that the red and white stripes came because some people added red rose sugar for more flavor and a better look. others say the red and white stripes represent Christs blood and purity. Either way I like the red and white candy canes. People are also making multi-colored candy canes with many different flavors. I like those too. I like the pink and blue cotton candy one. But I like the original red and white peppermint candy canes the most.

Which Animal Takes the Logest Nap?

Introduction

When fall comes to an end and the temerature drops, winter is here. Did you ever watch a movie or show of an animal who takes a long nap in the winter. Well thats called hibernation. Hibernation is not actually a long nap the animals are in some sort of coma. Some animals migrate but some stay. Before winter they eat as much food as possible. Then during winter they go somewhere warm and "sleep". Many different animals do this. Because of cartoon shows when people think of hibernating they think of bears only.

My Opinion

If I had the option to either migrate or hibernate I would hibernate. If I migrate I would have to move a lot. I like to stay in one place because then I have to get used to everything all over again. I could just relax during the winter. I also would beable to experience all the different seasons instead of just summer all the time. It could also be good to migrate because I would beable to experience different places, and cool new things.

Five True Hibernaters                     Five Light Sleepers

1. Bears                                             1. Skunks
2. Wood Chucks                               2. Racoons

4. Squirrels                                        4. Frogs
5. Snakes                                           5. Turtles

Question of The week

I hope after reading this you have learned a lot about hibertation. I have a question. What if you had the choice to either hibernate or migrate what would you do? I said I would hibernate but I also think that migrating would be okay. What would you choose? If you figure it out post it in the comments.

What is Black Friday!!!

Introduction

After all the turkey and football people start to prepare for the next day. People prepare what they are going to buy and all the sales and prices. People wait for hours or even days just to be first in line. Yup that is Black Friday. According to Wonderopolis, Black Friday is not an official holiday but it is very known through out America. It is made for showing it is the beginning of the holiday shopping season. People go crazy for the amazing sales. They go so early just to get special sales.

As you can see on Black Friday the stores are really crowded.

Why is it Called Black Friday???

Did you ever wonder why it is called black friday? Well from Wonderopolis I learned some thing about that. Bus drivers used to call it black friday because there was so much traffic. Thats how it was till buisnesses changed it. They made it so the "black" in black friday means they are making a lot of money. They also made it that red means that they are not making much money. That is one way people think the name Black Friday came to be.

My Opinion

Black Friday is a really fun day, and I like to go shopping. I don't get to crazy about it. I don't really do much shopping on Black Friday because after watching a Youtube video, I learned that the stores get so crowded. I also know that from past experiences. Everybody is trying to get the good prices. I don't really like to go shopping when you can't take a step without bumping into someone. Some stores don't get too crowded so I sometimes go shopping there. I really like the holiday though. In my family we made it a tradition to put up our Christmas tree on that day instead of going shopping.

5 Holidays                     5 Stores To Shop At On Black Friday

1. Christmas                              1. Macys
2. Easter                                    2. Nordstrom
3. Thanksgiving                         3. Target
4. Halloween                             4. Khols
5. New Years                            5. Costco

Weekly Question

I have always wondered what Black Friday is. I talked about one way people think why it is called black friday. How the "black" part means that the companys are making a lot of money. I want to hear your thoughts why do you think it is called Black Friday. If you come up with something post it in the comments. Thank You!!!

Itchy Mosquito Bites

Introduction

Did you ever play outside? When you went back inside did you ever notice a big red bump on your skin, I know I have. Well the cause for that is a pesky little parasite called a mosquito. When people say mosquito "bite" people automaticaly think that the mosquito actually "bites". It does not bite. The real way a mosquito bites is the mosquito looks for a blood vessel. When it finds one it puts saliva in it. The saliva has something in it called anti-coagulant this keep your blood flowing so it can quickly get some of your blood. Even though you don't feel the mosquito bite right away your immune system does. Right away it tells your body to produce something called histamine. When the histamine reaches the area of the mosquito bite it makes that blood vessel swell. When the blood vessel swells it irratates which causes itching.

My opinion

In my opinion mosquito bites are very annoying and irratating. They really itch. Its not very good to itch your mosquito bites because that just makes the body process more histamine and that causes more swelling and irratation. Also if you scratch too hard you can turn it into a scar and hurt yourself. Sometimes people keep gloves on so they won't scratch the mosquito bite and make it worse.

Ending

After reading the article that I read I started to think that the name mosquito bite should be changed. The mosquitoes do not really "bite". I could not come up with a better name though. After you read this I hope you think differently about the name too. If you come up with a good name post it in the comments. Remember not to scratch those mosquito "bites"!

Here is a link to the website I used. Thanks!

Advertising Strategies and Techniques

Introduction

The commercial I chose is a State Farm Insurance commercial. This commercial uses emotional appeal and Bandwagon. Emotional appeal means that it uses your emotions to get you to do something. Bandwagon is when they show that many people use the product and it is really cool. That creates peer pressure and that makes you want to buy the product. This specific commercial uses emotional appeal by making it so the people look so relaxed and happy with State Farm like theres no worry in the world. This commercial uses bandwagon by showing that State Farm is really popular and it can get you anything you want. The people snap their fingers and say the State Farm jingle and whatever they want pops out of no where.

This commercial uses emotional appeal and bandwagon. This uses emotional appeal by showing that the three boys are happy and relaxed with State Farm. They use bandwagon by showing that State Farm is popular and that the boys can get whatever they want just by singing the catchy State Farm jingle.

My Opinion

I like the commercial because it is really funny and interesting. This is emotional appeal its a funny commercial and funny is usually a key part of a good commercial. The jingle is catchy its one of those things that gets stuck in your head. The strategies that make me want to buy the insurance is it  makes me think that if I get State Farm I can get whatever I want, then that gets me wondering what would I get. That technique is bandwagon. They are showing that with State Farm you can get whatever you want. The target audience might be children and adults. It could be children because children are the people who would actually believe they could get whatever they want then they will tell their parents to buy the insurance. That means the kids would be tempted by the bandwagon appeal. The audience could also be adults because they might want to be relaxed and happy like the people in the video. That means the parents are being tempted by emotional appeal. I do think State Farm would get money because of this commercial. The reason is the people who made this commercial are really smart they made it so that this commercial could be for kids and adults. Kids could force their parents to buy State Farm and adults can force themselves.

Top Ten Emotional Appeal Commercials

This commercial uses emotional appeal by making the camel really funny. That makes everyone laugh that is watching it. Also the camel is really happy. When a camel is happy I am happy. This commercial also uses bandwagon by showing that geico is is used by a lot of people.

This commercial uses emotional appeal by making the hamsters really funny which makes me laugh. Also at the end when the hamsters come out of the car all the people are cheering like they are awesome. This add also uses trasfer appeal by showing the faces of they people when the hamsters come out of the car.

This commercial uses emotional appeal by making the people fight which is funny. This commercial also uses name calling by making fun of apple and samsung. The people who have Apple and Samsung fight and the people with the Nokia phone are calm and happy.

This commercial uses emotional appeal by making it funny that the kid keeps on talking and talking. This add also uses snob appeal by showing that AT&T is better than all companys. They say that AT&T is much faster than other companys.

This commercial uses emotional appeal by making the things the kids are saying really funny. This commercial also uses bandwagon by showing that AT&T is liked and used by many people. They also say AT&T is very big and is the most used company.

This commercial uses emotional appeal by making the people happy and energetic. This makes you want to buy the product so you can be just like the people. This commercial also uses snob appeal by showing that if you have the ipod you can dance as well as the people in the video.

This commercial uses emotional appeal by making it funny and confusing at the same time. The guy is at one place then he transports to another place. This commercial also uses snob appeal by saying that if you are a man and you use old spice you will become amazing.

This commercial uses emotional appeal by making the dog so cute and by making the dad beable to plan where ever they want to go. This commercial also uses bandwagon by showing that many people use verison and that it is very cool.

Ending

Commercials use very good techquiniques like bandwagon, snob, emotional, transfer, glittering generalities, and SO much more. Heres a link to see more.http://quizlet.com/16399919/new. Commercials can't always be trusted so be careful what you buy based on the commercials. Has there ever been a time when you really wanted to buy something based on a commercial you saw. You force your parents until they finally buy it. When you get it its nothing like you expected. Thats happened to me a lot. If that happened to you put it in the comments. Thank you.

The Emporer Qin Shi Huang

Introduction

Long, long ago before China was what it is today a smart, powerful  ruler named Qin Shi Hung was Emporer of China. At first Qin Shi Huang was an excellent ruler. He had many ideas and made many things he was very brave, confident, and strong. Until one day he became upsest with immortality. Every thing he did was to help benefit him in the "after life."

Clay Army

Qin Shi Huang wanted people to accompany him in the after life. So he decided to build a huge clay army including 8,000 clay sodiers Archers, Calverey, Charrioteers, and Foot Soldiers. He and 700,000 workers worked on this huge clay army for over 36 years. No two faces of the soldiers were alike. He made them to guard his tomb. The army also included over 650 clay horses.

Ten Things In The Clay Army

1. Horses- 650 horses in army
2. Archers- held bows
3. Warriors- plain soldiers
4. Charrioteers- rode on horses
5. Foot Soldiers- soldier that fought on foot
6. A Strong man- made for entertainment
7. Singers- to sing
8.Acrobats- to do gymnastics
9. Dancers- to dance
10. Governers- to have a government

Qins People

Qin was hated by many people because of his harsh rules. In the National Geographic video it talked about how Qin sacraficed many people. Some as a punishment and some so they could be with him in the after life. Many people tried to kill Qin because they really hated his ways of ruling.
Qin Dynasty

Qins Achievments

Even though Qin was kind of crazy he did have many achievments. In the National Geographic video it says hes the one who standarized Chinese writing. That means everybody was writing a different way but Qin made one way to write. He also commisioned the first wall of the Great Wall of China. That means he got the idea of making the Great Wall of China and gave someone the power to do it.

Question of The Week

I certainly don't like Qins thoughts and way of rule. Do you? What if you were living in the time of Qin Shi Huangs rule? What would you do? You can answer the quetion in the comments. Thank You.

The Fierce "SUPER CROC!"

Introduction

Long, long ago, about one hundred million years, there lived a ferocious beast none like ever before. Lurking both land and sea. Even the known dinosour T-Rex could not defeat this creature. Half crocidile half dinosaur it was the king. It could grow up to be at least forty feet, and weighing in at eight tons. The creature was covered with thousands of scutes. With its armor like body it was undefeatable. Its name is SUPER CROC!

My Opinion

In my opinion, after finding so much information from videos and articles about Super Crocs weight, size, body, prey, and so many other things, Super Croc is the most threatining creature of all. Super Croc is HUGE! I can't even picture it in my head. Its skull alone is 6 feet long. It also has a ton of sharp scutes on its back. Imagine sitting on all those sharp scutes. I used to think that dinosaurs were the most threatining creature because they were so big and ferocious, but it is said Super Croc knocked down dinosaurs. That really changes my opinion.

5 of Super Crocs relatives
1. Boar Croc- very fast
2.Pancake Croc- flat head
3.Rat Croc- 3 feet long
4. Dog Croc- dog like nose
5.Duck Croc- long,narrow snout

boarcroc

5 reasons why Super Croc is so super
1.  It is 40 feet long!
2. It is 8 tons!
3. It has an armor like body!
4. It has a lot of big, sharp teeth!
5. It is really fast!

Conclusion

Fortunately we won't have to face Super Croc. In Peter Winklers articles he states " Disease or disaster could have wiped out the species" What if Super Crocs did still live and a huge 40 foot beast was chasing you? What would you do? You can answer the question in the comments. Thanks!
