Animals Dream?

Intoduction

Do you have a pet? If so do you ever wonder what goes through its mind when it is sleeping? Have you ever had the thought of animals dreaming? Well if you did your right. Animals do dream when they sleep. If you ever watch an animal sleep you might be able to see it twitch. Did you ever wonder how scientists found out animals do dream? They couldn't just talk to the animal, so they did an experiment. They watched a trained rat go through a maze and recorded the brain activity of that rat. Next the watched a rat sleep and recorded its brain activity. When they were done they compared and found that the brain activity was almost the same. 

My Opinion

Many people don't believe animals actually dream. They want more proof. I on the other hand do believe animals dream. I have read and found information and facts about it. I have watched videos of the animals moving. I read all about the study the scientist did. I even saw my friend dog go to sleep and move around a lot. From all of this info I concluded that animals do dream. I also believe that if they are in a very deep sleep their dreams can be as advanced as humans. Sometimes they dream of past experiences and replay memories as dreams too.

Under Water Tunnels

Introduction

Did you ever go from New Jersey to New York the under water tunnel. Or any other under water tunnel. I have. Did you ever wonder how people made that tunnel? Because the pressure under the ground that was under the tunnels was very strong. Also dirt and water could disturb their work. Well there is a special technique used by engineers to build these under water tunnels. It has changed and became more efficient as our technology and resources advanced. But I am going to tell you about the first technique ever.

How?

Well the very first way was created in 1818. A french engineer named Marc Brunel created a device that could make the tunnels. His device was called a "tunnel shield." It was a big, rectangular, iron wall with small shutters on it. Workers would take turns opening the little shields to dig the dirt out. After a bit a progress was made the "tunnel shield" would be pushed back. As it would progress they would build a brick wall around it to make the tunnels sturdy. This was very time consuming. It took workers 9 years to build a 1,200 foot tunnel. That became the first underwater tunnel in the world.

My Opinion

Underwater tunnels are a good idea. It is either the underwater tunnels or an airplane. Many people do not like to ride on airplanes because they are scared of heights, get air sick, don't like to stay in a small place, or any other reason a person could come up with. So if you don't like airplanes you can use an underwater tunnel. For some reasons underwater tunnels may not be the right thing for you. If you need to use the bathroom or get hungry there are no rest stops, if you get car sick easily it may not be a good idea to use the tunnels. I think both the underwater tunnels and airplanes are great.

                                 

                                 As you can see back then the tunnels were not to fancy. The only 

                                 worried about actually building the tunnel. Now people can get the

                                  tunnel up easily because of all the advancements so people get the

                                 tunnel done quickly then start to think about how it is going to look. 

                                 Even though the tunnels these days still are not really "fancy" people

                                 do try to make them look good.

Question of The Week

I hope you learned a lot about under water tunnels. If you are really interested you can research the new ways people make the underwater tunnels. If you had the choice to go on a trip and it was a very long distance that is over seas would you want to drive there in an underwater tunnel or would you want to fly there on an airplane. Who Made Up Chewing Gum

Introduction

Have you ever chewed a piece of gum? Well if you have did you ever wonder who came up with this. Its a sticky, chewy thing that you put in your mouth and constantly chew is what I always think. Who came up with that? Well chewing gum has been used for many many years. The first piece of chewed gum leads up to about 9,000 years ago. A very long time ago the Mayan Indians used a type of sap taken from a native central American tree. At first they thought it would just dissolve in their mouth. Later they found out it is actually a rubber substance that does not dissolve in your mouth. They began to chew gum a lot. One reason they liked gum was since they chewed it a lot it would become warm and heat their mouths.

More History on Gum

After world war 2 people wanted gum. Chemists began to experiment so they can make the gum out of something else. After they found out a way to make the gum they began to add flavor into it. When you chew the gum at first there is a burst of a sweet flavor then it loses its taste. Also they began to improve it even more. They made it more moist and chewy by using glycerin. Gum became very popular and many people loved it very much. Gum is one of few things that was created long ago but people still use it now. Even though the gum we have these days is made of different things it still is gum.

                            

                             As you can see now in modern times there are so many types of

                             gum. First of all there are many brands that make gum as you can 

                             see from above they are mostly made from the same things but 

                             have different things that are added. Second there are A LOT of 

                             flavors of gum. There are mostly fruit flavors, spicy flavors, 

                             different drink flavors, food flavors, even dessert flavors, and so

                              many more.

A Soccer Star!!!

Lionel Messi 

Lionel Messi is an amazing soccer player. His national team is Argentina and his club team is Barcelona. He is a forward and scores most of the goals on both of his teams. He is a good sport and does not play dirty. He is very fast and has really strong shots. One of his best moves is he runs up from around mid-field, he tricks all the defenders, goes really close to the goal, and chips the ball over the goalie. If you play soccer Messi is a great role model. Many kids look up to him. He is a soccer star!

                        a celebration when he scores. He usually runs to the side and slides
                        on the floor.

Messis' Childhood

Messi was a great player when he was young. He didn't become a great player when he grew up, it all started when he was a kid. He probably had a soccer ball with him at all times. One thing that happened in Messis' life is he got kicked off of his soccer team when he was 11. He was a great player but he was diagnosed with a growth hormone that made him shorter than some other kids. But he didn't give up and now he is one of the worlds most famous soccer players

My Opinion

My opinion is Lionel Messi is one of the best players in the world. He is one of my role models because he is a really good soccer player and a good sport. One thing I learned from Messi is always be a good sport. That is very important because if you are a bad sport and purposley trip and hurt people on the field, no one is going to like you. Another thing I learned from Messi is to never give up. Like I said before Messi got kicked off his team when he was 11 but he did not give up and now he is one of the best players ever. Lionel Messi is an amazing player!
